File Extension RTF

Files with file extension RTF can be edited with the free Jarte word processor.

File extension RTF (Rich Text Format) is widely used among word processing programs to represent formated text documents. The RTF format was created, and still controlled, by Microsoft. However, unlike Microsoft's DOC format, the specifications for the RTF format are publically available so that any word processor can freely implement the format. As a result, RTF is easily the most widely supported document format used for formatted text among word processors. RTF is even well supported by word processors used primarily on Mac and Linux computers.
