Dragon NaturallySpeaking Incompatibility

The Problem:

There is a bug in Dragon NaturallySpeaking that prevents it from working properly with Jarte. Currently, Jarte addresses the problem by automatically reverting to an older version of the WordPad word processing engine (Jarte uses the WordPad engine built into Windows) when it detects the presence of Dragon NaturallySpeaking. The bug in Dragon NaturallySpeaking does not have an effect on Jarte when Jarte uses the older WordPad engine. The disadvantage of this solution is that some of Jarte's features are not available when Jarte is using the older WordPad engine.

The Workaround:

Follow these steps to direct Dragon NaturallySpeaking to behave correctly with Jarte:

  1. Exit Dragon NaturallySpeaking.

  2. Open file NSSystem.ini in Windows Notepad. The file can be found as follows:

      Windows XP:
          C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking10

      Windows Vista and above:
          C:\Users\All Users\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking10     OR
          C:\ProgramData\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking10

  3. Under the file's [Settings] section, add the following line exactly as it appears here:

      Edit Control If Probable=0

  4. Save and close the file.

  5. Launch Dragon NaturallySpeaking.

After implementing the above fix you should disable Jarte's attempts to revert to an older WordPad engine when it detects Dragon NaturallySpeaking. You can do that by changing advanced setting Detect DNS to zero.
